About This Wine:

The 2006 vintage shows the usual depth of character and style that the Thunderbolt Block has become expected to deliver. This is 100% Sangiovese, no other varietals were used to blend with this wine, and it definitely shows it in the strength of its character. Aging exclusively in French oak barrels that were coopered specifically for Sangiovese, the oak marries with the varietal character of Sangiovese and adds a beautiful texture and complexity to the abundant red licorice and black cherry cola aromas. Supple tannins and a characteristic racy acidity make this wine a stand out, and certainly it is a wine that will gracefully age for the next three to five years. Wild Horse Peak Sangiovese is like no other California Sangiovese, it is more typical in style to a great Brunello from Tuscany and over time this will become more evident.
